The Military Police (MP) play a critical role in ensuring the security and discipline within military installations. At Fort Zancudo, the MPs are tasked with maintaining order, enforcing laws, and responding to emergencies both on the base and in its immediate surroundings.

1. Primary Patrol Area: Fort Zancudo and Surrounding Region

The MPs primarily operate within the Fort Zancudo installation, conducting regular patrols to safeguard the base and its personnel. Their responsibilities also extend slightly beyond the base’s boundaries to monitor the surrounding area for potential security threats and ensure that no unauthorized activity occurs near the base perimeter.

• Fort Zancudo Security: MPs ensure the security of this highly sensitive military installation, which may include the safeguarding of personnel, military assets, classified materials, and restricted zones. Their presence deters potential threats, from trespassing to sabotage.

• Perimeter Patrols: MPs monitor the base’s perimeter for any suspicious activity or breaches. Given the military significance of Fort Zancudo, maintaining vigilance around the installation is critical for ensuring that no unauthorized personnel gain access to restricted areas.

2. Response to Calls within Fort Zancudo

The Military Police are the first responders to any incidents that occur within Fort Zancudo’s boundaries. Their duties in this capacity include:

• Handling Disciplinary Incidents: MPs are responsible for responding to military personnel involved in altercations, disorderly conduct, or any violations of military law. They are trained to de-escalate conflicts and ensure discipline among servicemen and women.

In addition to their duties on base, MPs may engage in traffic enforcement on the portion of highway that runs below Fort Zancudo, ensuring that military regulations and traffic laws are observed in areas where military and civilian traffic intersect. This involves:

• Monitoring Speed Limits: MPs ensure that both military and civilian vehicles adhere to speed limits and other road safety regulations on the highway near the base, helping to reduce accidents and ensure safe driving practices.

• Enforcing Military Traffic Regulations: They also ensure that military vehicles, especially large or specialized equipment, are operated in compliance with both military and civilian traffic laws.

4. Response to Off-Base Incidents Involving Military Equipment

The MPs have jurisdiction to respond to incidents outside the base if they involve military personnel or equipment. Given the sensitivity of military gear and technology, the MPs are tasked with ensuring its safety in the event of:

• Military Vehicle Accidents: If a military vehicle is involved in an accident off-base, MPs will respond to secure the scene, prevent any potential security breaches, and handle the situation according to military protocol.
